Do Few Things Right, Avoid Big Mistakes

Posted by Cash Color

“An investor needs to do very few things right as long as he or she avoids big mistakes.” - Warren Buffett

This old man is so right. If I had held on to my stock after the ex-dividend date my portfolio value would have grown by at least 10%. Instead I sold the stock and traded in a few stocks hoping to make even more money. Of course, things almost always never turn out the way we plan. Now, my portfolio has declined by almost 10%.

Once again Warren Buffett has proven to me that how correct he is. I need to find and make a list of his quotes. Also not to forget his annual letters to the shareholders. I should read all all these. It’s better to learn this way than learning the hard way.

My Earth Hour

Posted by Cash Color

“Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights.” - Source: About Earth Hour

This is the first time I participated in the Earth Hour movement. Switched off all the lights and computers at home. I listened to the radio in the dark. Haven’t done this in ages.

Dollar Averaging

Posted by Cash Color

I finally pumped in more money to buy stocks in a move to lower the average cost per stock of my portfolio. Is this a wise move? Honestly, I don’t know.

I have managed to lower the cost per share from RM0.905 to RM0.639. However, I could be spending good money to chase bad money. What’s there to ensure that the stocks won’t go down further?

Therefore I think that we should not dollar average for the sake of lowering the cost per unit. Instead, everytime we buy stocks, we should shop around and see which stocks is giving the best potential returns at that time. Oh well, I learn something new everyday.

Some Extra Income

Posted by Cash Color

At the time of writing this post, the Miriam Yeung All About Love world tour 2009 concert is underway.

Four days ago, I won 2 tickets to Miriam’s concert to be held today. I’m not her fan and my family members have their own plans in place already. And so I put up these tickets online for sale. I priced the tickets slightly lower than half of the normal price.

There were a couple of bookings and cancellations. However, I persevere and kept my cool. I finally sold and completed the sale of these tickets yesterday. Reminds me of a saying, “One man’s rubbish is another man’s gold.” Another cool RM140 into my pocket.

My First SEO Job

Posted by Cash Color

I’ve done a bit of SEO (aka Search Engine Optimization) work on some of my domains before. Knowing I have some knowledge in SEO, my brother has contracted a simple SEO job for me. This is my first SEO job.

I am tasked with getting this food service company to rank for certain keywords like “food service Malaysia“. More and more businesses realize the importance of ranking well in search engines. In the old days, only e-commerce websites would seek to rank well. Nowadays, websites from food stuff to farm equipment all want to rank well.

This SEO industry is a booming industry. And depending on how things develop in the next one year, I might switch career from accounting to SEO specialist.
